Roblox

Chat restrictions, spending limits, account PIN

Last updated: March 2026

Easy~5 minutes
1

Open Roblox Settings

Open the Roblox app on your child's device. Tap the three-dot menu icon (or the Roblox icon) in the bottom-right corner, then tap the gear icon to open Settings. You'll need to be logged into your child's account to make these changes.

2

Configure Privacy Settings

Go to the Privacy tab in Settings. You'll see options for "Contact Settings" and "Other Settings." Set each option individually. For younger children, set "Who can message me" to "No one" and "Who can chat with me in app" to "Friends" or "No one." Set "Who can chat with me in game" to "Friends" or "No one" as well.

3

Turn On Account Restrictions

Still in Settings, find "Account Restrictions" and turn it ON. This locks your child's account to a curated list of age-appropriate games and completely disables chat. This is the strongest setting and is recommended for children under 10.

4

Set Contact Settings Individually

If you did not enable full Account Restrictions, go back to the Privacy tab. Set "Who can invite me to private servers" to "No one" or "Friends." Set "Who can join me in experiences" to "Friends" or "No one." Set "Who can see my inventory" to "No one." These settings limit how strangers can interact with your child.

5

Set Up an Account PIN

Go to Settings, then the Security tab. Tap "Account PIN" and create a 4-digit PIN. Enable "Account PIN is currently disabled" to turn it on. Once set, this PIN is required to change any account settings. This prevents your child from undoing your safety changes. Do NOT use a PIN your child can guess (like 1234 or their birthday).

6

Set a Monthly Spending Limit

Go to Settings, then the "Parental Controls" section. Set a monthly spending limit for Robux. You can set it to $0 to prevent all purchases, or set a reasonable cap. You can also remove any linked payment methods from the account entirely by going to the Roblox website, logging in, and navigating to Billing settings.

7

Review the Friend List Regularly

Periodically check your child's friend list on Roblox. Go to their profile and tap "Friends." Look for accounts with unusual names or accounts that seem to belong to much older users. Ask your child how they know each friend. Remove anyone they don't know in real life or from school.

Pro Tips

  • Create the Roblox account yourself using your email address so you receive all notifications and can always do password resets.
  • Set your child's age correctly (or younger) during account creation. Roblox uses this to filter content, and there is no way to lower the age later.
  • Check in regularly by sitting with your child while they play. Ask them to show you their favorite games and who they play with.

What This Doesn’t Cover

  • Roblox parental controls do not monitor the content of conversations if chat is left enabled. Even with chat filters, some inappropriate messages can slip through coded language.
  • User-generated games on Roblox vary wildly in quality and content. Account Restrictions mode is the only way to guarantee curated content.
  • If your child accesses Roblox from a different device or a friend's account, these settings will not apply.
